IBE Youth Media Institute (YMI)

The Youth Media Institute (YMI) is Indiana Black Expo Inc's flagship program for afterschool and summer youth media production and technology training classes and workshops. Students will receive professional hands-on training and experience to build a foundation for a successful future.

The YMI program is 100% free and open to middle and high school students. Students are held to a high level of academic achievement both in the program and in the school. If you are between the ages of 13-19 and have a strong interest in media production, then this program is for you.

This is a 12-week program that meets every Saturday from 9am to 1pm. 

The following areas are studied during the student’s time in the program:

Introduction to radio broadcasting and studio operations
Introduction to broadcast announcing
Introduction to Audio and video editing
Language Arts
Radio Commercial Production
Career Development
Radio Broadcasting
Writing and Story Structure
TV Reporting and News Gathering
TV Newscast Production

Indiana Black Expo, Inc. (IBE) has been a pillar of the African-American community for decades as a year-round, multifaceted community service organization with 12 chapters around the state of Indiana. IBE is known for its two major fund-raisers, Summer Celebration and Circle City Classic. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit is governed by a board of directors comprised of individuals and community leaders from around the state of Indiana and employs a full time staff.
